Could 2011 be the year that Google PageRank ends it grasp over website owners?
Well to give you some background – The PageRank technology was created by Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin while still attending Stanford University and they own the patent to the technology until 2011.
If you have a look at official word from Google in their 2009 filing :”We hold a perpetual license to this patent. In October 2003, we extended our exclusivity period to this patent through 2011, at which point our license will become non-exclusive. The PageRank patent expires in 2017.”
Webmasters the world over have always regarded the Google PagRank as the ultimate evaluation of the progress or lack thereof of their websites and the popularity of their websites.
PageRank is measured on a scale of 0 to 10 with 10 being the highest. It is made of up a wide range of factors and the difference between 2 and 3 is actually a big difference and I will won’t get into the technical details here.
Personally PageRank is a nice indicator of progress but far from the ultimate measure of a websites standing from a popularity and SEO perspective.
Will PageRank come to an end, I guess on Larry and Sergey know the real answer to that for now…
